Full-spectrum (10% UV + 50% visible + 40% infrared) image of a street in Ocean City, New Jersey. The purple cast comes from the detection of infrared light by the red and blue sensors in the camera.

Here one sees the effect of a small piece of specially-designed optical glass intentionally placed in front of nearly all digital camera sensors so that infrared light is prevented from reaching the sensor, and images recorded by the camera have the same colors that we see with our eyes. I converted a simple point-and-shoot camera into a full-spectrum camera by removing this small piece of glass. Here I am holding that piece of glass in front of a basil plant.
